Steve formed Staff Training Associates Limited in 1991, achieving NZQA Registration as a Private Training Establishment in 1994, and offers our clients a 35-year practical business background, with a successful track record in Sales, Marketing, and Line Management. In 1989, Steve moved into the HR field as a consultant and completed a Diploma in Business Studies (Personnel Management and Employee Relations) in 1994, at Auckland University, following that up later with a Diploma in Adult Education and Training. He is an Associate of the NZ Institute of Management, holds Professional (Certificated) Membership and is a Fellow of the Human Resources Institute of New Zealand (FHRINZ), and is a professional member and Fellow of the NZ Association for Training & Development (FNZATD). He served on the HRINZ National Council for 5 years, for the last two years serving as National Vice-President, and then spent a further year on the Auckland Branch team organising Professional Development Seminars for the membership. He served on the NZ Association for Training and Development (NZATD)’s National Executive Committee, and served two years as Auckland Branch President of NZATD. Still serving on the committee, he currently edits and produces the ‘Networker’ magazine for the membership.

Steve and his team write and present training programmes on a broad range of subjects, which STA offers either in-house direct to clients, or as Public courses through the Employers and Manufacturers Association (EMA).  His specialist subjects are 'Vision, Mission & Values', Employment Law, Management Development, Customer Service, Train the Trainer and Personal Management skills.  His philosophy of learning is that adults need to be physically and actively involved in the learning process, which needs to be easily related to work needs, and mixed with large doses of humour.  In his spare time he writes regular columns and articles for professional journals such as ‘Employment Today’, ‘People & Performance’ and ‘NZ Professional Skipper’ (most of which can be read on this website by clicking here), and is himself a qualified charter skipper.
