me for an experience on some of the world's finest trout streams. From the gin
clear waters of the Caples to the idyllic Mavora lakes, sight fish to brown
and rainbow trout averaging 3-5 pounds. Who knows, the trophy of a lifetime
could well be up around the next corner! Whether you are seeking a couple of
days on safari or an action packed evening upon the Mataura, all tastes are accounted for with
pricing to suit.
Here
in the South Island we are fortunate enough to have over 400 rivers,
lakes and streams, most of which hold trout. From bouldery West coast rivers to
the meandering lowland streams of Southland, productive fly fishing can be
found in the majority of weather conditions. Brown and rainbow trout
inhabit these waters and can grow to an impressive size - fish in excess
of 9kg have been landed in recent years! Land-locked quinnet salmon are
found in the southern lakes and provide exhilarating sport on light
tackle.
Kiaora
I'm Chris, your guide and writer for South Island based 'Fishing Action'
magazine. I'll take you on a journey to the majestic waters of
Otago
and Southland in search of their superbly conditioned brown and rainbow
trout. With over 15 seasons of experience upon these waters I feel
confident of showing you a day to remember.
Finding, stalking and finally
landing a South Island trout is a truly magical experience. A mountain stream
with 'gin clear' water is the only camouflage for a 6lb rainbow trout. To catch
these trout requires skill, patience and perhaps some luck - I found Chris had
all three and together we managed to land some of the world's finest trout. I
would recommend a trout fishing experience with Chris anytime!
