Sara Cohen School Special Education Itinerating Service

Itinerant Specialist Teaching Service for ORRS Funded Students in Inclusive Settings.

Sara Cohen's Itinerant Teacher Service operates out of our Base School at Rutherford Street. Our service began in 1989, before the introduction of Special Education 2000, and now our specialist teachers work in many Otago primary and secondary schools, providing specialist support for students who are ORRS funded. Where schools transfer to Sara Cohen School the specialist teacher component of an ORRS student's staffing entitlement, we are able to work within that school to provide specialist support for the student and their families, and for the staff working with that student.

   We Provide:

Regular, hands on teaching time with the student.

Assistance in developing and monitoring programmes that comply with New Zealand Curriculum requirements and also mesh with the main classroom programme.

Support for teacher aides.

Sound advice on developing special resources.

Help creating each student's Individual Education Plan (IEP).

Computer and technology advice and assistence.

Students who are verified as either high needs or very high needs under the Ministry of Education Ongoing and Reviewable Resourcing scheme (ORRS) are entitled to funding for Specialist teacher time

Specialist Teacher Funding of 0.1 FTE or 0.2 FTE may be transferred to Sara Cohen School. In return Sara Cohen School will provide 2.5 or 5 hours specialist teacher time to support the student in their classroom.
