Career Pathways: Transition to life beyond School

Transition to Work Programme

At Sara Cohen School we offer a Transition to Work Programme for our senior students. Placement within this programme happens once a student reaches an age at which they are able to work in a supervised setting with confidence and at a level of reasonable ability. This is usually around 18 years of age.

Our Students have worked for car wreckers, supermarkets, university halls of residence and many other work placements in the city of Dunedin over the last few years.

The Transition to Work Co-ordinator spends time getting to know the student so that Work Placements are suited to the interests and abilities of the student. Sometimes this means trialling a number of placements before finding suitable ones.

Our aim for our older students is to have them in Work Placements or Leisure Pursuits for much of the week in the final two terms leading up to their leaving school at the end of the year in which they turn 21. The majority of these placements are set up so that they can continue with them on leaving school.
