Oamaru Victorian Heritage Week is celebrated each year in November, it emphasis's Oamaru's Unique Victorian Heritage by recreating the atmosphere of the town and re-enacting Victorian times. Unique in New Zealand, many of Oamaru's original architecture remains to this day, and much of it has been restored in recent years. The Heritage fete is held on the Sunday following a week of events and takes place in the Historic Precinct. Many people dress in authentic attire and participate in the activities that would have been popular a century ago
