Uniting an industry to take on the world
MAREX, The Marine Export Group of New Zealand, is an industry trade group less than four years old, yet today represents virtually every major boatbuilder, yacht designer, hardware, equipment or marine apparel manufacturer in New Zealand.
Our members built "Black Magic", designed and built her sails, spars, supplied the cordage and several even sailed as crew. Our members built the luxury superyachts that are winning awards and turning heads at the most glamourous ports of the world.
Our members are individually some of the most creative and dynamic marine industry professionals in the world and together we have a clear voice committed to present the message that New Zealand is a small nation, but a world leader in everything boating.
Formed with the support of Tradenz, the New Zealand Trade Development Board, MAREX has a range of promotional activities including:
International Boat Shows - MAREX will take the New Zealand marine industry to such varied boat shows as:

Special Events - MAREX regularly presents special events that help to bring international industry leaders together. The MAREX IMS Forum at Kenwood Cup on 12 August 96 will bring many leading designers, boatbuilders and sailors together to discuss the state of, and the future of, the controversial IMS rule.
In January 1994, MAREX hosted Yacht Vision 94, an international yacht design symposium attended by most of the world's leading designers. The event featured a range of technical and business sessions on the state of design plus such events as a designer's yacht race on Farr-designed MRX boats. (Ed Dubois won the event, Bruce Farr came in 7th.) The spectacularly successful event concluded with an on-the-water party for the re-start of the Whitbread Round the World Race. Yacht Vision 98 is planned while the Whitbread fleet is in Auckland in January 1998.
MAREX has a wide range of other activities including working with Government agencies to smooth the way for visiting yachts for the upcoming America's Cup Campaign, helping to develop educational programs to train more staff for our rapidly expanding industry, etc.
Headed by American-born New Zealander, Peter Rachtman who has 15 years of experience in the marine industry in both New Zealand in the US, MAREX maintains a full time office dedicated to helping New Zealand marine companies increase their export activities and to help people overseas learn more about our industry.
MAREX also hosts these Internet Home Pages. Please feel free to make MAREX your one stop information center for any information about boating in New Zealand.
