Dear Sir/Madam

INBENCH completed its first study in 1999 and is now looking to build on that success by expanding its partnership. We would, therefore, be delighted if your company would join us and consider participating in this years study; INBENCH 2000.

INBENCH is a unique world-wide benchmarking consortium of major telecommunications companies, it is independent of professional benchmarking organisations. Its prime purpose is to share non-public domain metric information to populate scorecards with benchmark data and also to help partners target areas for internal quality improvements. INBENCH is currently prototyping a web site at http://home.xtra.co.nz/hosts/inbench, the site provides contact details and records benchmark measurement and process information.

Because INBENCH is run by telecommunications companies for telecommunications companies there is no cost of partnership; your company would simply need to agree to abide by the terms of the INBENCH Agreement which clarifies the following points:

  • Purpose
  • Working Practices
  • Code of Conduct
  • Conditions of employing Trusted Third Party
  • Confidentiality

Although INBENCH does not charge a fee, its partners who choose to join a benchmark study share the cost of participating in that study. As a partner joining a study you would simply pay its share of the INBENCH 2000 study costs. This would cover the cost of employing the Trusted Third Party to blind the metrics, produce a report and presenting them to you at a date and time of your choice.

INBENCH 1999 was the first study completed by this benchmarking group. It consisted of about 160 structured metrics covering the costs and quality of service key network platforms and products. Details of these metrics are available on http://home.xtra.co.nz/hosts/inbench/metric.htm. The cost to individual partners for this study was about $20,000 USD. The following statements have been volunteered by some of our existing partners:

Jostein Brundeli (Telenor): "INBENCH is established to come up with useful measurements to improve the members business at lowest possible costs. It is not a consulting company driven to work based on commercial criteria."

Bruce Officer (Telecom New Zealand): "INBENCH is the most effective forum I have access to for exchanging metrics that due to confidentiality constraints I would not otherwise be able to exchange. It presents a good learning opportunity."

Paul Allen (BT) : "I cannot think of another benchmarking opportunity that has delivered more value per pound than INBENCH. The results have been well received within BT and have already been used to help target quality improvement activity"

INBENCH 2000 aims to simplify the existing measures and to include new metrics for 'new wave' benchmarks, probably in the areas of Domestic Interconnect, Mobility, Broadband and Internet. Of course, as a partner of INBENCH, your representatives will have an equal voice in determining the direction of INBENCH 2000.

I’d be delighted to discuss this opportunity with you in the near future.

Sincerely, [INBENCH partner’s name, address and contact details]
