Hapai te Hauora Tapui has a strong influence in supporting
Maori Hapai Te Hauora Tapui is a Regional Maori Public
Health Provider, is based at 212 Manukau Rd, Epsom.
It is the result of a tripartite between, Te Runanga
o Ngati Whatua, Te Whanau o Waipareira Trust and Raukura
Hauora o Tainui. The core business of Hapai is to
provide Regional Maori Public Health. It achieves
this through its ability to broker contracts with
the Ministry of Health on behalf of its partners.
This approach ensures common advantages in respect
of co-operation, advocacy, and supports economies
of scale.
Hapai Te Hauora Tapui is clearly a successful service
delivery mechanism due in large part to its staff,
which are committed to Maori development, the development
of a Model of Practice, which supports Maori development
for hapu and whanau and the corporate vision and organisational
culture. All of which contribute to making the Company
unique.
Hapai Te Hauora Tapui does not in itself have a target
audience as clearly defined by specific clusters or
groupings of people.. Hapai however directs its focus
toward kaupapa Maori practices of delivery. It also
seeks to ensure that health promotion approaches are
appropriate for Maori that live within the boundaries
of these 3 organisations.
Having said this, what does Hapai do?
We provide public health services by:
• co-ordinating the delivery of a range of
health promotion activities and events
• setting the framework for delivery through
the development of and implementation of Maori Ora
Mauri Ora
• raising the awareness of public health issues
at a hapu and whanau level
• providing strategic advice on public health
issues that directly impact on health outcomes for
Maori
• advocating for improvement in Maori health
outcome/s through public health and health promotion,
networking and linking with the wider Public Health
Sector.
The business has evolved rapidly in terms of the
number of services it is currently delivering and
in its overall capacity an example of this is reflected
in its revenue growth from $700k in 1997 to in excess
of $2m in 2004. It has established credibility in
the community and currently has the confidence of
the Ministry of Health and Maori Purchasing Organisations
in the Company’s management and operations systems.
