also        A few close up pics of the Navigator Jaunty...

and        A few favorite pics of my old Navigator "Jaunty" ( I have now sold Jaunty and I'm about to commence on a new project-stay tuned)

Steve parke is the skipper of this extremely well presented Navigator, "Arwen". Looking most expedition ready she is seen here drawn up on the beach at East Portlemouth, Salcombe. Steve has owned the boat for three years and had a lot of FUN with her. Some of those great times are recorded in his blog here, be sure to give it a read and check out the pictures...

My new boat is still proving to be a great success and one hell of a lot of FUN! She is seen here tucked up against the stunning shoreline of another favorite weekend destination, Garden Cove at Waiheke Island . After a bit of a white knuckle ride from the city in fairly extreme conditions and a boat speed of upto 13 knots (without spinnaker) it didn't take long to cover the 17 miles to get here. Getting back the following day? A very different story indeed.

New Video... A (clever) friend of mine whipped this up this little beauty, and as we all need a little more sunshine in our lives I suggest you watch it.

From a sandy island beach near St Michaels.USA arrives this fine shot of a Marsh Cat design by Joel White. Built over a two and a half year period or approx 800 hours by proud owner/skipper Kevin MacDonald, progress is documented here...

At last. After more than two years toiling in the garage (part time) the first Awol "Medusa" is born. And what a lot of FUN she is...

Robin Ferrier built this boat in 2004 and is seen here, resting on a sandbar off the Spanish Banks - Vancouver BC.

Here's something slightly different sent to us from Tom Zhou. A yard specialising in traditional wooden boats (mostly open) in China. Could be a lot of 'FUN' for that waterfront property of yours and looking at the prices, extremely good value. Check them out at http://www.zlynn.com.

Peter & Angela Murton of Murtons Timbercraft have just built and launched this John Welsford take on a "Whaler". She's a pretty serious looking ship and can be seen sailing around the Nelson area at the top of New Zealands South Island. Well done.

Christine DeMerchant tells me it's cold and gray in Toronto at the moment so her little yacht "Cricket" will not be getting wet for several months. Cricket is a CLC Skerry and is her first build. Simple and very pretty, she has been a great teacher, as she had only sailed about 6 times before building her. Christine sails in Toronto, right on Lake Ontario and also maintains a very nice little website, well worth a look... http://www.christinedemerchant.com/skerry.html

Peter Deverell forwards these photos of "Kingfisher" sailing on Whangaroa harbor. Designed by his 13 yo brother and built with help from dad, she can be rowed with one or two sets of oars or sailed. She can fit two rigs, an optimist rig and a splash rig, she is extremely light and fast and can even get on a plane up wind. Because of her narrow shape she can be quite tipy and is more suited to singlehanding when under sail.

Two dads, two daughters and a few days away on their open boat... Winds weren't that kind, the tides were all wrong and the beer supply, limited. Still, a great trip was had and the location doesn't look to bad either. Where? Queenslands Fraser Island. There's even a movie , Producer/director - Rob Blackburn.

Two Welsford boats sailng on the Wye River of Chesapeake Bay, sailing to St. Michaels, Md. for the Mid-Atlantic Small Craft Festival.  At left is Kevin Brennan in his Navigator "Slip Jig", on the right is Steve Earley aboard the Pathfinder he built himself, "Spartina."  Also aboard is Bruce Hollingsworth who took the photo. He and Steve are wrapping up a seven day cruise on Chesapeake Bay.  They met Kevin and some other small boats for an overnight stay on a creek. It was Steve's first look at a Navigator and now knows I liked Jaunty so much!.  Steve also admits that it was great fun to sail along with another Welsford boat. I know the feeling.

Nick Evans is skipper of this very tidy looking Mirror Dinghy. He, along with a good friend "Neil" have been enjoying this past summer cruising the Firth of Clyde (Scotland), dodging submarines and admittedly getting fairly wet, yet at the same having a fantastic adventure and a lot of FUN. True "dinghy cruising" in its purest form. A wonderful pursuit where "less" really is "more".

Keith Webster sends us this excellent shot taken recently at Benfleet creek in Essex UK. The nicely presented Ness Yawl, 'Surprise' was built 1996 by his father Ron Webster at Crag foot in Lancashire on the shore of Morecambe Bay...

Early one morning of a seven day cruise in the sounds of North Carolina, Steve Early is thoroughly enjoyng the Welsford Pathfinder he built himself - Spartina.

Chris Mullins 16' 9" O'day daysailor mid-eight day cruise around the nooks and crannys of Eastern Maine...

Wojtek Baginski emails these shots of newly launched Bay River Skiff 17 "Doppio" making her mayden voyage on the Gdansk Gulf area in Poland, with Polish - Australian crew onboard. There are more photo's here...

Wow... Nathan Penonzek cruising Howe Sound aboard 'Pookmis II', having rowed her there from Brentwood, through Porlier Pass & across the Salish Sea
(Georgia straight) also Known as the "Emerald Sea" and onto to Gibsons (Soames point) this past summer.
The 19' 6" Lowell Banks Dory, has featured before and is described in John Gardners "Dory Book". An old deck boat from S.A.L.T.S. S/V Pacific Swift.
Fir on oak, has Flip across Leeboard & haul up rudder blade and 'Hong Kong' style bamboo battened, canvas
unstayed Junk sail.

Some great memories from Moreton Bay circa 1970's in this collage of pictures sent in by Cameron Heathwood. Featured are his first boat 'Velella', a ten foot Howard Chapelle design, a twelve foot 'Graduate' and finally a 'Yachting Monthly Junior 14'. Heath still loves his sailing and is at present refitting a 19' fiberglass daysailor as well as being closely involved with Australian Search and Rescue.

This beautifully presented Caledonia Yawl belongs to Nicholas Whitman and is seen here enjoying a FUN day out at Westport, Mass. USA.

Alastair Reid offers these pictures of his Houdini in action somewhere deep in the AbelTasmanNationalPark. A better boat for serious dinghy cruising would be hard to find. Childs play to sail, safe, seaworthy, surprisingly roomy and perfect for exploring the many stunning beaches, bays and harbours of this country. This boat was built by a Stuart Robertson of Geraldine.

My previous boat Jaunty and I had many wonderful adventures together. Here she is on one them parked up somewhere in the beautiful Mahurangi harbour just north of Auckland... Good times.

Les sends us a pic of his GP14 awaiting her skipper at reservoir Bermajales in Spain, Just south of Granada...

Paul Patterson enjoying the maiden voyage aboard his Scruffie 16. It took him 10 months to build in the garage at his home in Townsville, Queensland. He promises to send more shots as the adventures unfold. We look forward to seeing them and the Gaff rig and self furler in action. Cheers...

Alexander Li sends these super pictures all the way from Kandalaksha, Russia. He and his crew are seen here sailing 'Karbas' on the White Sea, thoroughly enjoying the severe northern weather... If you can read Russian there's more on the region here.

Eric Rouxel sends this great picture of Icthus, his Drascombe Lugger sailing (no motor) into the little port of Andernos (near Bordeaux France). What a great feeling, to be sliding into the calm waters of a sheltered harbour after an adventurous day at sea...

Regular contributor Godfrey Stephens sends these interesting shots from Victoria B.C. Canada. Above a Lowell Banks Dory that has over 50,000 sea miles on it. Once deck boat on the PACIFIC SWIFT , it has been everywhere, with sand clogged behind the frames from Rapa Nui, Pitcairn , Portugal , up the Guadaquivir river in Equador. Lunenburg, New Zealand and Australia. While Godfrey had big plans for it he has to many projects on and has passed her on to world class Bmx-er, Nathen Penonzek who is keen to cruise her further...

Below this 'Whitehall' is the latest from Ian MacKenzies Boat Building shop in Victoria the " DIANE". Satisfaction is a job well done.

Tony Nelson send us pics and a website featuring his gaff rigged 'Crinker'. Certainly worth a look here...

Two Drascombes enjoying a leisurely day out at the Milford Haven SeaFair and Alans 'Dabber' awaiting recovery at Brightlingsea Hard, Essex, UK.

Timothy Jones send us these two stunning shots, above features his Jersey Skiff moored on Lake Huron north of Manitoulin Island and below is is his home built Whitehall on Lac Poison Blanc a large reservoir in Quebec just north of Ottawa Ontario. Two great boats at two great locations... such are the possibilities.

Robert Rothbard has enjoyed sailing aboard this Seapearl 'R&R' since 1983. She is seen here on the Missisipppi River near Clarksville U.S.A. and has also cruised the Texas coast extensively as this article attests.

Two familiar boats sailing off Thumb Point, Waiheke. This shot was taken from the Navigator - 'Jaunty' looking across to the Pathfinder - 'Varuna'. In the background are the Coromandel ranges. Sure looks nice a nice day to be out on the Gulf.
