The Pathfinder "Varuna" somewhere off the East Coast Bays, Auckland...w

Jim Luton cruising his Sharpie in the fog, somewhere near Brooklyn, New York.

This slippery looking machine belongs to Russ Downs. She is seen here cruising the Neuse River, North Carolina. USA.

Thomas Hamernik is seen here with crew flipping his partially built Pathfinder somewhere near Chicago, USA. Good luck with the project Tom, looks like you've done an outstanding job so far.

Another Dave sends us a couple of pics each, of two of his home-designed & built expedition boats.
The  grey one 'Gordon'  unbolts into 3 stacking sections and is pictured in the Rio Guadiana, Spain.
The mauve boat 'Eric the Mauve' (who's not QUITE as intrepid as 'Eric the Red' ) is pictured in  Cable Bay, &  Abel Tasman Park, NZ...... he only  breaks down into two parts.
Cheers Dave, your certainly living the life...

Per send us a pic of his beautiful looking craft from Sweden with an attached complaint that the sailing season there is just to short... Still its long enough to get some real pleasure and quality is often better than quantity. The boat is a 'Losten' by Lunds Boats. Nice!

This wee Drascombe was recently spotted by my cousin 'Antony' whilst visiting Dartmouth, South Devon - England. He assures me its a great place to explore even on foot, however a boat like this would be just the ticket for getting up close and personal with some the many local attractions.

Tom Love has just purchased this Lugger from Canada but intends to sail her here at Bellport Bay on the south shore of Long Island, New York. He tells me that, 'the boat is fabulous'. Sure certainly looks the part.

This beautifully presented Navigator 'Slig Jig' is seen here at her launching her on Barnegat Bay, New Jersey but her home waters will be on the Chesapeake Bay, Maryland.

From Lake Ellesmere, located in the Canterbury region of New Zealand's South Island comes this spy shot of the recently launched cabin version of John Welsfords superb Pathfinder 'Kaiarahi' preparing for what looks to be a very pleasant day to be pottering about on the water.

Kevin Sluder is just starting to get to exciting part of his Pathfinder build, the planking. Looks like nice and tidy work Kevin, well done.

I don't like to feature to many boats with cabins on this website for obvious reasons but how could I resist another peak at the previously featured Snookwis. She started life completely open, A dugout canoe cut from a single huge piece of red cedar near the end of the 19th century by First Nations at Nitinat, Vancouver Island. Since then a cabin complete with wood stove has been added. Her present caretaker, Godfrey Stephens assures me that interface of water, air and fire is indeed truly special and I for one totally believe him...

A quick scrub of the copper sheathed hull and Snookwis is ready for another hundred years of excellent adventure...

Gijs van Kemende is no stranger to the joys of cruising with an openboat. He has featured earlier in this websites history sailing the beautiful Greek Islands and is now seen here ghosting along the Netherlands 'Waddenzee'.

The owners of this Sentinel Explorer now live in Picton, a picturesque town near the top of New Zealands South island. Recently they spent a few days camping up at Okiwi Bay on Croisilles Harbour sailing out to the little islands at the mouth of the bay. They inform me that a beer or two was enjoyed in absolute peace at this beautiful beach, epitomizing the joy of sailing aboard a smaller open boat. Skippers Ian and Paula came here to live from Africa, keen to take advantage of the superb sailing and tramping available in the region. They run a very nice looking guesthouse handy to all the local attractions. Be sure to check out their website here...

Andrzej Ksiazyk sends these two pictures from Poland. A stitch & glue sailing-rowing dory-skiff of his own design and built in his sisters garage (well what are sisters for eh?). L 4,6 m, B 1,5 m, sail area 7 sq m. He calls the boat a "Salmo 15". Homewaters for her are the beautiful Narew River and Zegrzynski lake (close to Warszawa).

David Lackey sends two pictures of himself and nephew J.J. Lepard, sailing on the west Texas lake of Champion Creek Reservoir. The boat is a 1969 Chrysler Lonestar 16. He will be sailing the boat on a 240 mile coastal race/raid known as the Texas 200 in June. We certainly look forward to hearing more about that event which sounds like a lot of FUN!

The Welsford Navigator Ddraigg is seen here on Lake Tarawera which is centrally located on New Zealand's North Island. Skipper Ben Wiles is looking forward to venturing further down the island chain and exploring the Southern Lakes  region on a tramping /sailing holiday with her next summer .

Bryan Goreand sends us something a little bit different from the Costa Brava, this freshly restored two man rowing skiff in the old english style with ladies seats fore and aft. Bryan is also restoring a 35 year old Drascombe Lugger. Look forward to seeing the pics.

A great shot from Brightlingsea, England. There is only one thing more fun than being at sea on an openboat of your own. That's being at sea with two open boats. Here we see a Drascombe Driver being chased by the Drascombe Dabber - Cariad

Brian Pearson at the helm of this 14'6" Iain Oughtred designed Gannet on her maiden voyage... Location is Keyhaven at the very western end of the Solent in the UK.
