Descendants of Alexander MacLeod

1. Roderick MacLeod was born in 1776 and was married twice.
   He married Flora Ross before 1798, the year the Parish Register began. He would have been about 22 in 1798 so they wouldn't have been married very long beforehand. He appears in the census of 1811, at the farm of Culag in Assynt, as 'Rodk. McLeod McAlester' (that is, Alexander's son). There were two males and three females in the household so I assume he had a son and two daughters alive at that time. Flora died about 1813.
   He married Janet MacLeod, daughter of Murdoch MacLeod and Christian MacLeod, on 26 Jun 1815 at Filin where Janet was living at the time. They were both aged about 39. They had one child. From at least 1841 they lived at Inverkirkaig where he was a Crofter / Tenant. He was widowed again in 1855 after 40 years of marriage, and died on 13 Jan 1862 aged 86.

   3. Alexander MacLeod, bapt. 3 Mar 1805 Culag, Assynt. (The Mother was Barbara Ross but there is no other record of that couple so I have assumed an error of the clerk)
   4. Betty / Betsy MacLeod, born about 1808, was living at Inverkirkaig when she married William Matheson from Clachtoll on 25 Feb 1829 'in the field' at Edrachalda. They lived in Clachtol and had seven sons and a daughter. She died at Clachtol on 18 Oct 1891 aged 83.
   5. Ketty MacLeod, bapt. 22 Jan 1811 Culag, Assynt. (Are Betty & Ketty the same person?)
   6. Flory MacLeod, bapt. 25 Nov 1812 Culag, Assynt.

   7. Murdo MacLeod, bapt. 21 Apr 1816 Filin, Assynt. He was living in Inverkirkaig when he married Jane MacDonald from Strathan on 14 Mar 1843. He was a fisherman until some time in the 1860's when he became a Crofter. He died at Inverkirkaig on 10 Feb 1898 aged 81
      1. Roderick MacLeod, born in 1844. He was a fisherman in his 20's and 30's. He married Anne MacLennan, daughter of Kenneth MacLennan and Mary Urquhart, on 21 Dec 1882. He died on 5 Dec 1916 at Altandhu, Coigach of flu & Heart-failure, aged 72.
         1. Jane (Jeanie) MacLeod, born 5 Mar 1884 Blairbuie, Coigach. She married Kenneth MacKenzie (they lived in Altandhu). She died on 15 Sep 1947 Altandhu, Coigach, aged 63.
         2. Mary Ann MacLeod, born 5 Feb 1887 Inverkirkaig, Assynt. She married Lance Corporal Murdo Campbell, son of Alexander Campbell and Bella MacLeod, on 16 Jul 1914 at Altandhu, Coigach. Two weeks later he left for France and died there the next year of illness. After the war she married Donald MacLeod, son of Donald MacLeod and Effie MacLean. They married on 3 Apr 1919 in Inverness. They had five children at Camuscoille, Coigach. She died on 12 Sep 1960 in Lairg aged 73.
         3. Murdo MacLeod, born Mar 1890 Inverkirkaig, Assynt, died on 29 Jun 1916 aged 26.
         4. Kenneth MacLeod MBE, born 1892 Altandhu, Coigach. He became a policeman like two of his MacLennan uncles. He married Margaret C. Dykes, daughter of Thomas Dykes and Margaret Cunningham. He was made an MBE in the Coronation Honours in Jun 1953. He retired in Jan 1956 at Paisley with the position of Superintendent & Deputy Chief Constable. He died on 24 Aug 1970 aged 82.

2. Margaret MacLeod, born circa 1781, was married to Angus MacLeod. She died at Badnaman on 14 Feb 1870 aged 89
