Descendants of John MacLean, Coigach,
John MacLean married Rachel MacLean. He was a Miller. They had a son...
- Duncan MacLean
was born about 1798 in Coigach. He married Margaret
Nicolson in the 1820s (I haven't found a record of the marriage). In the 1841 census they were living at Achnahaird where he was a Crofter & fisher, by 1851 they had moved nearby to Camuscoille where he was a crofter of 2 acres. He died there 19 years later, on 19 Feb 1870, after an illness of two weeks, aged 71.
- John MacLean, born 28 Dec 1828, was a fisherman. Last found at the family home in 1861.
- Murdo MacLean, born 18 May 1831, was a fisherman. Last found at the family home in 1851.
- Norman MacLean, born circa 1837, was a fisherman. He married Mary (--?--) in the 1870s He took over the family home at Camuscoille.
- Duncan MacLean, born c. Jan 1881 Camuscoille.
- Murdo MacLean, born c. 1882 Camuscoille.
- John MacLean, born c. 1884 Camuscoille.
- Donald MacLean, born c. 1886 Camuscoille.
- Alexander MacLean, born c. 1890 Camuscoille.
- Norman MacLean, born c. 1892 Camuscoille.
- Maggie MacLean, born c. 1894 Camuscoille.
- Isabella MacLean, born c. 1898 Camuscoille.
- Alexanderina MacLean, born c. 1900 Camuscoille.
- Anne MacLean was born in 1839. She married Murdo MacLeod some time after 1861, and I suspect, between 1875 & 1881. They were living in Polbain in 1881 with Anne's mother and no children. Anne registered her mother's death in 1886.
- Hannah / Joanna MacLean, born circa Dec 1840. Last found at the family home in 1861.
I am interested in this family because Duncan's wife Margaret Nicolson, in her death registration has the same parents as another Margaret Nicolson who lived at Camuscoille and was my ancestor. Were these really two sisters with the same name?
