CONCERN CARDS
These cards are sent to parents and specify the area of concern the Principal
has regarding the student. Parents are asked to call in and see the Principal.
CONTACTING THE SCHOOL
Parents are welcome to ring the school at any time during school hours
(8.00am-4.00pm). If you wish to see the Principal, Associate Principals,
Pastoral leader, Guidance Counselor, Careers Advisor or any member of the
teaching staff the school office will make an appointment for you.
CONTRACT
Where a student is involved in misconduct of some form, for the first time,
he/she may be placed on a school contract. This involves the student and his/her
parent's meeting with the Principal and agreeing to a certain course of action.
CURRICULUM
The school's curriculum is under constant review, the objective being to achieve
maximum flexibility within the constraints of the Ministry of Education
regulations to meet the changing needs of students. Yrs 1 to 10 pupils do a
general course of study common to all schools, in line with the New Zealand
Curriculum. This specifies the eight essential learning areas - Language and
Languages, Mathematics, Science, Technology, Social Sciences, the Arts and
Health and Physical Well-being - which students need to acquire. These learning
areas are essential for a broad and balanced education. The Year 9 and 10
curriculum is delivered through a largely compulsory programme, which allows
students to experience the breadth of curriculum available. In the second half
of their year, Year 10 students will be encouraged to consider their senior
course options for the following year. Course Option booklets will be made
available, as will special option meetings with parents. It should be noted that
course approvals proposed by any student will require the approval of the
Associate Principal of senior classes. Year 11 students usually take five
subjects plus Physical Education, Health and Transition courses although a
select group may be approved to take six. Year 12 & 13 students generally study
five subject options. The faculty leaders for each learning areas Yr 1 - 13 are
English - Gay Semenoff, Te Reo Maori - Matiu Tohu, Harata Herbert, Te Kauri
Wihongi, Science - Technology - , Mathematics - Royce Metcalfe, The Arts -
Gay Semenoff, Health & Physical Wellbeing -, Social Science - Christine Gilmore.
