![]() THE COROMANDEL PENINSULA is one of the worlds best kept secrets. Visitors to New Zealand are discovering more and more that it is a must see region of this wonderfully diverse country. LOCATED IN THE NORTHEAST OF THE NORTH ISLAND, the Peninsula enjoys a gentle climate with prevailing offshore winds and subtropical Pacific waters fed by currents traveling south from the Coral Sea. The area offers a wide variety of activities from it's beautiful South Pacific white sand beaches to its extensive trail systems through the densely forested coastal mountain range. FAMILIES WILL DISCOVER spots such as Hotwater Beach where one has to merely dig a hole in the sand to have a hot mineral bath. Sports minded vacationers can enjoy world class surfing, scuba diving, kayaking, fishing, and a miriad of water sports, as well as hiking, golf, and mountain biking. There are also many quaint towns that dot the Peninsula, home to local artists and galleries. Fine eateries abound with fresh country produce. TAIRUA IS LOCATED CONVENIENTLY on the Coromandel as the first beach town one may access from the main road to Auckland. Tairua itself has one of Coromandels most beautiful sand beaches as well as it's trademark tidal estuary. Tairua means "town of two tides." It's distinguishing landmark is Paku Hill, an often photographed headland from where the natural harbour enters on one side and the kilometre long beach stretches on the other. SOME OF OUR RENTALS are on Paku Hill with amazing views and private trails to the beach. Others are on the beach with the blue Pacific in the front yard. Amenities include satellite TV and laundry facilities. We also have small self contained cottages and motel rooms on the estuary for the more budget minded traveller. PRICES FOR THE PRIVATE HOMES are US$125 per night with seasonal discounts available. Weekly and long-term rates may be arranged. Prices for the cottages and motel rooms are US$70.Inquiries and bookings call (international) 64-78648581 (domestic) 07-864-8581 Email: Pacific.Harbour.Motor.Lodge@pop3.xtra.co.nz |
